Starlyn Baxter of Conyers offers this recipe for Dirt Cake. She said she still made the treat for her children, even when they were college-age, and they continued to ask for the gummy worms on top of the "dirt."
This can be made in flowerpots or in a bowl, sheet pan or glass baking dish. -- Marcia Langhenry
Hands on time: 15 minutes Total time: 30 minutes Serves: 8
Ingredients:
-
1 (3 1/8-ounce) package instant vanilla pudding
2 cups cold milk
1 (20-ounce) package Oreo cookies
8 ounces cream cheese
8 ounces sour cream
12 ounces nondairy whipped topping
1 large clean flowerpot or 1 gallon bowl
Gummy worms, optional
Instructions:
Mix pudding and milk as directed on package. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to set.
Meanwhile, place cookies in blender or food processor and process until crumbs resemble dirt. Set aside.
In a medium bowl, blend cream cheese and sour cream until smooth. Stir in chilled pudding. Gently add nondairy whipped topping.
To assemble: Place some cookie crumbs onto bottom of pot or bowl. Add some pudding. Repeat layers, ending with cookie crumbs on top. Top with gummy worm, if desired, and place real or artificial flowers into pot to use as centerpiece.
Note: Wrap flower stems with plastic wrap before inserting into pot.
