Cuisine: Cocktail Drink

Cocktails around the holidays are like decorations at Halloween
-- mawkishly tacky in a delightful sort of way. This time of year,
even hard-core gin and bourbon drinkers might give in and sip on some sentimental sweet stuff. Mixing up a silly, sweet cocktail makes everyone's heart light.

This fun martini tastes just like a gingersnap cookie. Created by Grey Goose Vodka's master mixologist Nick Mautone, author of "Raising the Bar, " this version is designed for a party, so use the measurement of "part" according to your crowd's needs -- an ounce, a cup, a quart.

Hands on time: 4 minutes  Total time: 4 minutes  Serves: 1

Ingredients:

1/2 part simple syrup (see note)

    1/2 part molasses

2 to 3 thick slices fresh ginger

    Pinch of cinnamon

    Pinch of clove

    Pinch of allspice

    Ice

    1 part pear-flavored vodka

    1/2 part Amaretto Disaronno

    Crystallized ginger for garnish

Instructions:

In the bottom of a cocktail shaker, place the simple syrup, molasses, ginger and cinnamon, clove and allspice; muddle well. Add ice, vodka and amaretto. Shake vigorously until the outside of the shaker is frosted and beaded with sweat. Strain into prepared martini cocktail glass. Garnish with crystallized ginger.

Note: Make simple syrup by mixing equal parts sugar and water and bringing them to a boil. Cool, then keep tightly covered in the fridge until needed.
