With apologies to recipe creator Ken Davis, I substituted a generic brand of barbecue sauce for his namesake brand and it still tasted just fine. And -- heretical as it might seem -- I actually adjusted the barbecue-to-marinara sauce ratio in subsequent go-rounds to give it a slightly spicier (read: more Italian) taste. But that’s the beauty of this tasty, easy recipe. You can alter the combination of sauces and meats (even I think Polish sausage and kielbasa qualify as overkill) to meet your likes and dislikes -- with one notable exception. The hot dog slices are a must, giving this melting pot pizza that all-American flavor. -- Jill Vejnoska

Hands on time: 15 minutes  Total time: 30 minutes  Serves: 8

Ingredients:

    2/3 cup marinara sauce
2/3 cup Ken Davis Bar-B-Q Sauce (see note above)
    1 tablespoon yellow mustard
2 prebaked pizza crusts, such as Boboli
    4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
    1 hot dog, thinly sliced
    1 smoked bratwurst, thinly sliced
    1 Polish sausage, thinly sliced
    1/2 cup kielbasa, thinly sliced
    1 medium onion, thinly sliced
Pickle relish and hot sauerkraut, if desired, for garnish

Instructions:

Place oven rack in the lower third of the oven, and preheat to 425 degrees. In a small bowl, combine the marinara and barbecue sauces and mustard. Spread on pizza crusts. Sprinkle each with ¸ cup cheese. Scatter slices of hot dog, bratwurst, sausage, kielbasa and onion atop the cheese layer. Sprinkle with remaining cheese. Bake directly on the oven rack for 10 to 15 minutes, or until crust is crisp and cheese is melted. If desired, garnish with pickle relish and hot sauerkraut. -- Adapted from www.kendavis-bbq.com
