WHAT CAN I BRING? Ice Cream Dream

Perfect for: Group socials, school functions, family dinners.
Make and take: Make ahead and freeze.
Made famous by: Elaine Taylor of Tifton, who adapted it from another recipe. "It's yummy, and everybody fights over the cherries, " she said.

To make whipped cream, combine 1 cup heavy whipping cream, 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract in mixing bowl. Whip with electric beaters until peaks hold their shape.

Hands on time: 10 minutes  Total time: 10 minutes  Serves: 15

Ingredients:

12 neapolitan flavor ice cream sandwich bars
    1 cup chocolate syrup
1 (6-ounce) jar maraschino cherry halves
2 cups whipped topping or whipped cream

Instructions:

In an 8-inch-square pan or glass dish, arrange half the sandwich bars in a neat layer (you may have to cut one or two of them). Lightly press the bars to push ice cream to edges. Drizzle with about 2/3 cup chocolate syrup and dot with half the cherries and some of the juice. Spread with half the whipped cream. Top with another layer of sandwich bars, press to edges, and then cover with remaining whipped cream. Decorate top with remaining chocolate syrup, cherries and a little drizzle of the cherry juice. Freeze until ready to serve.

Notes:

To dress it up, assemble the dessert in a pretty glass bowl (make sure it's freezer-safe). "Serve it with a silver spoon, and it's just gorgeous, " Taylor said.
