This quick and easy version of spaghetti alla carbonara is made with ham instead of bacon for speedy cooking. This recipe has pleased four generations, says contributor Connie Mahoney: "This is an old German recipe that my grandmother used to make and that my daughter is now cooking for her son. I have never served this to a kid who didn't love it.”

Ingredients:

1 pound of spaghetti
1 tablespoon butter
3/4 pound sliced ham, cut into small squares
3 eggs, slightly beaten
1 cup Parmesan cheese (shredded Swiss or mozzarella can be substituted)
Instructions:
Cook spaghetti according to package directions, drain and set aside.
In a well-oiled skillet, add butter. Add ham and cook for 2 minutes. Pour spaghetti over the ham and mix gently mix. Add eggs and gently mix again. Cover with a lid and cook on low heat 5 to 7 minutes, until eggs are just set. Stir to combine. Sprinkle with cheese. Season with salt and pepper.
